Arnold Silverstone, Baron Ashdown (born September 28, 1911 in Llanelli , Carmarthenshire , Wales , † July 24, 1977 ) was a British entrepreneur and politician of the Conservative Party , who in 1975 was a life peer under the Life Peerages Act 1958 of the House of Lords has been.

Life

Silverstone came from a Welsh family and was an entrepreneur. In addition, he was involved in the Conservative Party and was its treasurer for some time.

Silverstone, who was also knighted as a Knight Bachelor and then had the suffix "Sir", became a member of the Life Peer with the title Baron Ashdown , of Chelwood in the County of East Sussex, through a letters patent dated January 3, 1975 House of Lords, of which he was a member until his death. On March 5, 1975, with the assistance of Eric Edwards, Baron Chelmer and Robert Allan, Baron Allan of Kilmahew, it was officially inducted into the House of Lords.

His older brother Joseph Ellis Silverstone also became a member of the House of Lords on June 24, 1976 as Baron Stone, of Hendon in Greater London .

He was the founder of the Lord Ashdown Charitable Settlement , while Baron Stone founded the Lord Stone Trust . The Stone Ashdown Trust emerged from a merger of the two organizations, providing financial support to institutions such as the London School of Jewish Studies (LSJS).
