The Arsenal Factory ( Ukrainian Завод Арсенал Zavod Arsenal ) is one of the oldest and most famous factories in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev . It was in 1764 as a repair workshop and production facility of Tsarist established army and was originally located on the Kiev fortress area in the district of Pechersk (Печерськ). Among the former workers were the sniper Lyudmila Pavlitschenko , who worked as a grinder in the factory before 1941, and the actor Boryslav Brondukov .

After the Second World War , the Arsenal factory turned into a manufacturer of optical devices. During the Cold War , Arsenal reverted to a major manufacturer of military products, employing tens of thousands of people. The company specialized in optical components for the military and Soviet space travel . The manufacture of civilian products now played a subordinate role at Arsenal. Nevertheless, cameras of the Kiev brand already achieved a high level of awareness in the socialist countries during the times of the Soviet Union . Today, among the traditionally produced products of Arsenal analog optical equipment such as medium format -, stereo - and small picture - SLR , lenses and binoculars . Lately the company's range of products also includes optoelectronic products, signaling and medical devices.

The company is currently state-owned.

The arsenal factory was the scene of the Kiev arsenal factory revolt in 1918 . The events surrounding the revolt served the Ukrainian director Les Kurbas as the basis for his film Арсенальцы (Arsenaltsy) from 1925. Oleksandr Dowschenko's 1928 classic film Арсенал (Arsenal) also deals with the storming of the Arsenal factory.
