Kind of Jenkins

Arnold "Art" Jenkins (born April 18, 1934 , † April 13, 2012 ) was an American singer, songwriter, composer and percussionist who was a member of the Sun Ra Arkestra for many years .

Live and act

Art Jenkins became a member of the Sun Ra Arkestra in 1960; first joint recordings were made in 1962 for his album Secrets of the Sun . By 1971 he worked on seven other records; after a break he returned to the ensemble in 1988, to be heard on the albums A Song for the Sun and Music for the 21st Century (El Ra Records). In addition to his activities in Arkestra , Jenkins recorded the self-produced album Under the Sun under his own name . He wrote u. a. the composition King , dedicated to the civil rights activist Martin Luther King ; the song was interpreted by the Brooklyn Repertory Ensemble on their album Pragmatic Optimism . He also worked on Mario Escalera's album Goodbye Pork-Pie Hat .

Art Jenkins should not be confused with the keyboardist and percussionist Arthur Jenkins (1936–2009) of the same name .
