Art Academy (also called Art Academy: Learn drawing and painting techniques step by step! ) Is a video game developed by Headstrong Games and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS . The game was released in stores in Europe on August 6, 2010. The aim of the game is to teach the player how to draw and paint through several drawing and painting lessons. Art Academy is the collection of lessons from two DSiWare games, namely Art Academy: First Semester and Art Academy: Second Semester .

Art Academy was originally a DSiWare title, but later also appeared in stores. Art Academy is a game of touch! Generations brand from Nintendo. The game has received several sequels and spin-offs. On July 28, 2012, the successor to the Nintendo 3DS , New Art Academy , was released. Another successor appeared with Art Academy: studio for the Wii U on June 26, 2015. In addition to Art Academy: Atelier Nintendo released on August 9, 2013 Art Academy: SketchPad , an application software for painting and drawing without lessons in Nintendo eShop the Wii U, with which you could publish your own pictures in the Miiverse and view pictures of others. In addition to the main parts, the spin-offs Pokémon Art Academy and Disney Art Academy appeared .

Gameplay

Art Academy is a painting program and consists of several lessons and mini-lessons through which one should learn and deepen certain drawing and painting techniques. In addition, you can draw and paint in Free Drawing without instructions, but with a selection of different templates. The console's touchscreen serves as a canvas on which to paint.

Lessons

All Art Academy games (with the exception of Art Academy: SketchPad ) contain several lessons and mini-lessons in which you should learn and deepen various painting and drawing techniques. In the lessons, the only two characters appear in Art Academy . The artist Vince and his dog Bacon give various scenarios in the lessons, ranging from a still life of an apple to the dog Bacon himself to a landscape. The lessons are divided into several individual steps through which the picture is to be completed. During a lesson, Vince first shows which settings to use, e.g. B. the colors or the brush type. Then you draw and paint Vince's picture.

After completing a lesson, you have access to the next lesson. Certain lessons unlock mini-lessons. Mini-lessons build on each lesson. The picture of the mini-lesson is a variant of the picture of the associated lesson. In mini-lessons you don't have any guidance from Vince compared to the lessons and you have to finish the picture yourself. The finished images can be saved in the gallery.

Free drawing

In Free Drawing you can either draw and paint without a template or with a template that you can choose from a selection of templates. In Art Academy you can also use your own photos as a template if you are using a Nintendo DSi . Since New Art Academy this has always been possible. In Art Academy: Atelier it is also possible to look at five different landscapes in 360 ° and create a template yourself. All painting tools can be used in Free Drawing . The finished images can be saved in the gallery. In Art Academy: SketchPad and Art Academy: Atelier , you could upload your own images and download images from others until the Miiverse service was shut down on November 8, 2017, and use them as templates if necessary.
