Inferior phrenic artery

Branches of the aorta and inferior vena cava

The inferior phrenic artery (Latin for 'lower diaphragmatic artery ') - referred to in animal anatomy as the caudal phrenic artery - is an artery of the abdominal cavity . It arises as a paired vessel from the aorta , immediately after its passage through the diaphragm , sometimes also from the celiac trunk . Then it pulls back towards the diaphragm. The right inferior phrenic artery runs behind the inferior vena cava ( inferior vena cava ), the left medial to the left adrenal gland and to the side of the esophagus . The vessels then branch out in the diaphragm and supply it.

Several small arteriae suprarenales superiores to the adrenal gland on the same side arise from the arteria phrenica inferior . The right inferior phrenic artery gives off fine branches to the wall of the inferior vena cava as well as to the liver and pancreas , the left to the esophagus and spleen .
