Arthur Bauer (* 1858 in Ischl ; † September 6, 1931 Frankfurt am Main ) was an Austrian theater actor .

Life

Arthur Bauer was the son of Andreas Bauer, owner of the "Hotel Bauer". He did not want to admit that his son turned to the stage career. Forced by the business ruin of his father, Arthur Bauer left his parents' house in 1878 and was engaged as a choir player in Salzburg . It took a long time before the art-loving young man was able to acquire an artistic position. He went through the whole misery of the comedian wandering life, also worked in the most subordinate positions at various provincial theaters in Austria and was finally satisfied to be hired as a stage manager at the summer theater in Budapest and later as a chorister in the theater in der Josefstadt .

There he managed to get the role of "Josef Lanner" in Friedrich von Radler 's play of the same name, in which he was liked and drew attention to his talent. Had he not been seriously ill at the time, his lucky star would have risen by then. He had to work like this for a while before his artistic ability achieved a breakthrough.

He came from Vienna as a lover to the Klagenfurt Theater, then to Regensburg, to the German Theater in Budapest, to Halle, until he finally joined the Association of the Graz City Theater in 1889. There he worked until 1891. In 1892 he was offered a position at the German Theater in Berlin. At this art venue and as a participant in the overall guest performances of German artists at the Alexander Theater in St. Petersburg, he received extensive applause.

In 1893 Angelo Neumann won the artist for the German Theater in Prague. In 1895 he received a call to Frankfurt from the artistic director Emil Claar . There he became an honorary member of the municipal theaters. He worked in Frankfurt for 32 years until 1927.

Bauer was married to the singer Marie Hellmer .
