Arthur Bitter
Samuel Haberstich (born October 7, 1821 in Ried bei Worb , † February 24, 1872 in Bern ), known under the pseudonym Arthur Bitter , was a Swiss writer and journalist .
Life
He first worked as a secretary for a legal agent and later got a job at the office of the Bernese finance department . At the same time he attended the legal and philosophical lectures at the University of Bern , came into contact with the politician Jakob Stämpfli and from 1846 devoted himself to journalism . He was the editor of various radical-liberal satirical papers ( Schweizerisches Charivari , Emmenthaler Joggeli ), wrote a columnist for the Basler Nachrichten and Neue Zürcher Zeitung, among others, and wrote a number of novellas , including the stories from the Emmental . In 1851 he was expelled from the canton of Bern for his political satires and lived in Solothurn , Murten and Zurich until he was allowed to return in 1856.
