Arthur Gary Bishop (born September 29, 1952 in Hinckley, Utah , † June 10, 1988 in Draper , Utah) was an American serial killer who was sentenced to death and executed for the kidnapping and murder of five children from Salt Lake City . Bishop first criminalized in February 1978 when he was an accountant for a used car company, embezzling $ 8,714 and sentenced to five years probation.

The case

On October 14, 1979, he kidnapped four-year-old Alonzo Daniels from the courtyard of his home in Salt Lake City, murdered him, and buried the body in Cedar Fort, 20 miles southwest. On November 8, 1980, he lured eleven-year-old Kim Peterson from a skater park Salt Lake City in his car, killed him, and buried the body in Cedar Fort as well. On October 20, 1981, he lured four-year-old Danny Davis into the parking lot of a local supermarket, murdered the boy, and buried him next to the other two bodies. On June 23, 1983, he murdered six-year-old Troy Ward while playing in a park near his parents' home. This time he put the body in Big Cottonwood Creek. On July 14, 1983, he abducted thirteen-year-old Graeme Cunningham right in front of his home, murdered him and buried the body near Troy Ward.

Investigators found that a certain Roger Downs knew four of the victims and was friends with the parents of the fifth victim. It was found that Roger Downs was Gary Bishop, who had only adopted that name. When convicted during interrogation of using a fake alibi, he confessed to the five murders and the next day led investigators to the three bodies in Cedar Fort and the two bodies in Big Cottonwood Creek. He was eventually sentenced to death in 1984 for the kidnapping and murder of five children and was executed by lethal injection on June 10, 1988 in Utah State Prison.
