Arthur Westrup

Arthur Westrup (born February 20, 1913 in Düsseldorf , † September 20, 2009 in Neckarsulm ) was a German journalist, advertising specialist and publicist. He was best known for the slogans with which he made NSU vehicles known to a wide audience.

Life

After graduating from high school, Westrup studied philosophy and theater studies. He initially worked as a sports editor and was hired in 1934 by NSU director Fritz von Falkenhayn as press spokesman for NSU. In 1973 Westrup switched to Volkswagen.

In 1950 Westrup was one of the co-founders of the magazine gute fahrt . He also founded the press service Autopress .

Arthur Westrup is the father of Klaus Westrup . the long-time employee and editor-in-chief of auto motor und sport magazine .

Westrup is also credited with the following short poem on the occasion of the visit of Soviet Prime Minister Bulganin to the Federal Republic: When Bulganin saw the Quickly, he stood there deeply impressed. Then he admitted, quite frankly: We didn't invent it! (Intended as an allusion to attempts by the Soviets at the time to attribute all important inventions to Russian inventors).
