Georg Artur Meistermann , also Arthur (born October 3, 1884 in Solingen , † November 22, 1975 ibid) was a German politician ( center , CDU ).

Life

Artur Meistermann was born the son of a shoemaker. After attending elementary school, he learned his father's craft and passed the journeyman's and master's examination. In 1902 he took over his parents' business, a shop for orthopedic shoes in Solingen, which he became owner in 1910. He took part in the First World War as a soldier from 1916 and was taken prisoner by the English, from which he was released in October 1919. He then continued his work as a master shoemaker until 1930, when he sold the business. He was also chairman of the Solingen Crafts Office and a member of the Düsseldorf Chamber of Crafts .

Meistermann joined the Center Party, was a city ​​councilor in Solingen from 1919 to 1926 and was the deputy chairman of the center group there. From 1928 to 1933 he was a member of the Prussian state parliament . During the National Socialist rule he worked as a shoemaker again. After the Second World War he became a district master craftsman and again chairman of the craft office. In 1945 he was a co-founder of the CDU in Solingen and again entered the city council. From 1946 to 1947 he was a member of the Appointed Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia . In 1957 he resigned from the CDU.

He was the father of the artist Georg Meistermann .
