The Düsseldorf Chamber of Crafts (HWK) is one of 53 chambers of crafts in the Federal Republic of Germany with its seat in the North Rhine-Westphalian state capital Düsseldorf . With around 59,000 member companies, it is one of the largest self-governing institutions in the economy. It represents the interests of the entire trade in the Rhine, Ruhr and Wupper areas: companies, employees and trainees. Your care area is congruent with the administrative district of Düsseldorf .

founding

The Düsseldorf Chamber of Crafts was founded on April 26, 1900 on the basis of the Craftsman Act from 1897. Until 1904, Dr. Andreas Grunenberg (born June 23, 1856 in Münster; † 1931) first syndic of the Chamber of Crafts. After the Second World War, the British occupying power approved the Düsseldorf Chamber of Crafts again as an independent organization of the craft. Since 1953, the craft regulations have described the tasks of the Chamber of Crafts.

Like all chambers of skilled trades, the Düsseldorf Chamber is a corporation under public law that performs public tasks such as keeping the craft directory and the apprenticeship role as well as examinations in vocational training and further education and, as a carrier of public interests, it represents the interests of its members. Academy of the Düsseldorf Chamber of Crafts

The Düsseldorf Chamber of Crafts operates a vocational training center (the Academy of the Chamber of Crafts ), which focuses on professional training to become a master craftsman in 24 trades and on commercial and technical training. It leads around 1,000 young craftsmen to the master's degree every year .

Operational advice

The advice center offers information and advice for all member companies. For example, members receive around 12,000 short-term consultations annually. A special focus is on advising start-ups and supporting training companies. Craft businesses that deliver abroad or work abroad, who have questions about the planning situation at the company location, procurement law or contract drafting, need industrial property rights (patents, trademark protection), want contacts to research, want to improve their marketing presence, will find competent people in the Chamber of Crafts Contact Person.

UZH Center for Energy and Environmental Protection

In the Centers for Environmental Protection and Energy Technology in Skilled Trades (UZH) and for Living in Old Age (WiA), the Düsseldorf Chamber of Skilled Crafts has set up competence centers for craft businesses that go beyond the chamber boundaries.

Institute for university entrance qualification

The Düsseldorf Chamber of Skilled Crafts, together with the City of Düsseldorf and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, has been running the association "Institute for obtaining the university entrance qualification for craftsmen, skilled workers and other professionals with completed training eV " and thus the Wilhelm-Heinrich-Riehl-Kolleg since 1958 .

Presidency & Management

Andreas Ehlert, authorized district chimney sweep from Düsseldorf, has been President of the Düsseldorf Chamber of Crafts since April 2014. The previous president Wolfgang Schulhoff died in 2014. The square in Düsseldorf-Bilk , where the Chamber of Crafts is located, was named after him.
