Wolfgang Schulhoff (born December 14, 1939 in Düsseldorf ; † February 17, 2014 there ) was a German politician ( CDU ), member of the German Bundestag and, until his death, president of the Düsseldorf Chamber of Crafts .

education and profession

After graduating from high school in 1959, Schulhoff did an apprenticeship as a plumber and then studied economics at the University of Cologne . In 1965 he graduated with the diploma examination (Diplom-Volkswirt).

He later became a managing partner in his father Georg's company , the Dipl.-Ing. G. Schulhoff GmbH & Co. KG, and at Schulhoff Ingenieur Planungs GmbH.

Schulhoff was a Protestant, married and had two children. He died of cancer at the age of 74.

politics

Schulhoff had been a member of the CDU since 1959 and was chairman of the CDU Düsseldorf from 1989 to 2003. Since 1968 he was a member of the local government, from 1969 to 1983 as a member of the city council of Düsseldorf. From 1977 to 1983 he was deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in Düsseldorf.

From 1983 to 2002 he was a member of the Bundestag. In 1983 , 1987 , 1990 and 1994 he entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the constituency of Düsseldorf I and in 1998 via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia. In the Bundestag he was a member of the finance committee and chairman of his party in the committee for post and telecommunications.

Other offices

From 1971 to 1983 Schulhoff was active as an honorary financial judge. In the 1980s he was a deputy member of the advisory board of the regulatory authority for telecommunications and post .

Schulhoff has supported the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences since the mid-1990s . He was a member, honorary professor and later chairman of the university's board of trustees. The Mittweida University of Applied Sciences annually awards the Wolfgang Schulhoff Prize for outstanding scientific work in the field of economics with an interdisciplinary character.

Schulhoff was chairman of the Insel Hombroich cultural foundation . For many years he was Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Messe Düsseldorf GmbH.

Since January 1, 2003, he has been President of the Düsseldorf Chamber of Skilled Crafts, and since January 1, 2005, he has also been President of the North Rhine-Westphalian Crafts Day (NWHT). From 2005 until his death he was chairman of the supervisory board of 'Handwerksbau Niederrhein AG'.

Honors

Wolfgang Schulhoff was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class and in 2007 the Great Cross of Merit.

The University of Mittweida awarded him the Golden Badge of Honor in 2009.

In 2012 he received the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and in July 2013 the Polish Golden Cross of Merit .
