Artur Vieregg

Artur Vieregg (born May 8, 1884 in Berlin ; † 1946 in Soviet captivity) was a German figure skater who started in a single run .

Vieregg started for the Berlin ice skating club in 1886 . In the 1920s, he was the third best German figure skater behind Werner Rittberger and Paul Franke . In 1920, 1921 and 1923 to 1926, he finished third behind the two at German championships . Even before the First World War , he was runner-up behind Rittberger in 1912. Vieregg took part in European championships three times , in 1922 , 1924 and 1926 he was eighth. At his only world championship in 1923 , he finished sixth and last.

After his active ice skating career, he worked as a judge and trainer. He also worked as a lecturer at the German University for Physical Education in Berlin . From 1923 to 1934 he was President of the German Motorcyclist Association (DMV) and organized numerous motorcycle races, including a. on the Avus, the Nürburgring and the Schottenring. From 1935 to 1939 he was the “technical and sports director” of the Berlin Sports Palace , when the war began he was drafted as major in the reserve. He is the author of the book The Ice Skater .
