Artur Wechselberger

Artur Wechselberger (born November 7, 1952 in Hall in Tirol ) is an Austrian doctor for general medicine / additive geriatrics, health scientist and medical professional. He was elected President of the Medical Association for Tyrol in 1990, was first Vice-President from 2007 to 2012 and President of the Austrian Medical Association (ÖÄK) from 2012 to 2017 .

life and career

Artur Wechselberger received his doctorate in general medicine from the Medical Faculty of the Leopold-Franzens University Innsbruck in 1977 and established himself as a general practitioner in Holzgau in the Tyrolean Lechtal on February 1, 1981 . Since 1989 he has been running his medical practice as a general practitioner in Innsbruck . He completed his training as a quality manager and completed his studies in health management at Danube University Krems in 2005 with a Master of Science (MSc) and in 2006 with a Master of Business Administration (MBA). In 2012 he obtained his doctorate in philosophy (Dr. phil.) As part of the doctoral program in public health at UMIT in Hall in Tirol.

Since 1998 he has been teaching general medicine at the Medical Faculty of the University of Innsbruck (since 2004 Medical University ).

In 1990 Artur Wechselberger was elected President of the Medical Association for Tyrol, a position in which he was last confirmed in 2017 for a further five years. In 2007 he was elected the first Vice President and in 2012 President of the Austrian Medical Association. He held this function as well as the function of Vice President of the Federal Conference of Liberal Professions in Austria (BUKO) until 2017. Since 2017 he has headed the department for quality assurance and quality management as well as the department for guidelines, patient safety, HTA and Guidelines International Network of the ÖÄK and represents them in the platform patient safety and in the Austrian Society for Quality Assurance & Quality Management (ÖQMed). As head of the department for occupational medicine, he has been a member of the board of the Austrian Academy for Occupational Medicine and Prevention (AAMP) since 2000, of which he is also vice-president.
