Arved Lompe

Arved Lompe (born December 23, 1907 in Frankfurt an der Oder ; † February 13, 1985 in Munich ) was a German physicist who played a key role in the development of gas discharge lamps (mercury and sodium vapor lamps, fluorescent lamps).

He studied physics in Hanover, Göttingen and Greifswald. He was the managing director of Osram GmbH and head of the main research and development department. In 1960 he became an honorary professor at the TU Berlin.

In 1970 he was made an honorary senator of the University of Karlsruhe and died on February 13, 1985 after a brief, serious illness.
