Arvella Gray
Arvella Gray , real name James Dixon (born January 28, 1906 in Somerville , Texas - † September 7, 1980 in Chicago , Illinois ) was an American blues singer and guitarist of African American descent who spent most of his life busking in Chicago, before played blues and gospel music mainly in the (flea) market around Maxwell Street .
Recordings of him can be heard on numerous record samplers , including And This Is Maxwell Street , three self-produced 45 rpm records and on an album (Blind Arvella Gray The Singing Drifter) from 1972, which was re-released on CD in 2005. The re-release received the Living Blues Award 2006.
