Arvind Krishna

Arvind Krishna (* 1962 in Dehradun ) is an American - Indian manager. He has been the CEO of IBM since 2020 . Prior to that, he had been with the company for 30 years and was promoted to Senior Vice President of Cloud and Cognitive Software in 2015.

career

His father, Major General Vinod Krishna, was an army officer who worked for the Indian Army and Government, and his mother, Aarti Krishna, worked for the welfare of the veteran widows. He completed an education at St. Joseph's Academy in Dehradun, and Stanes School in Coonoor ( Tamil Nadu ) before 1985 a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur received. He then went to the United States for a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1990 . He received prestigious alumni awards from both institutions.

Krishna joined IBM in 1990 where he was promoted to Senior Vice President for IBM's Cloud and Cognitive Software. He has made academic contributions in a number of technical areas including wireless networks, security, systems and databases. He also managed the development and expansion of new markets for IBM in the areas of artificial intelligence, cloud, quantum computing and blockchain. He also led IBM's acquisition of Red Hat in 2018 for $ 34 billion.

He became CEO of IBM on April 6, 2020, succeeding Ginni Rometty .
