As Rosas Não Falam ( German : “The roses don't speak”) is a song by the Brazilian samba composer Cartola . The singer Beth Carvalho recorded the composition in 1976 on her album Mundo Melhor . This became the first commercially available recording of As Rosas Não Falam .

The title of the song came about as follows: One day Cartola brought his wife Dona Zica rose seedlings that he had planted in the garden. A few days later, when the woman opened the door in the morning, she noticed that an unusually large number of seedlings were beginning to bloom. She asked her husband why so many roses were suddenly blooming, and he replied, “I don't know, Zica. Roses don't speak! "
