Life

Matogrosso joined the Brazilian Air Force at the age of 17 and was transferred to Brasília . During this time, Matogrosso began to sing in a quartet and performed at festivals all over Brazil. Hoping to become an actor, he went to Rio de Janeiro in 1966 , where he sold handicrafts. In 1971 he went to São Paulo , took the stage name Ney Matogrosso and performed with the glam rock group Secos & Molhados . Within a few months they became well known and sold more than a million records. After that, he started a solo career and achieved great fame. He was awarded five gold and one platinum records.

He also became known for his outfit with colorful, glittering costumes, make-up and his feminine movements on stage. Ney Matogrosso has always been a controversial character. One of his greatest hits was the song "Homem com H" (by Antônio Barros).

In 1986 Matogrosso first appeared without his fantasy costumes. Since then he has concentrated more on his work as a singer and interpreted traditional music of the Música Popular Brasileira . This genre appeared for the first time on his album "O Pescador de Pérolas" (1986), where he recorded the songs "O Mundo É um Moinho" (Cartola), "Dora" ( Dorival Caymmi ), "Da Cor do Pecado" (Bororó) and "Aquarela do Brasil" interpreted by ( Ary Barroso ).

Ney went on tour with guitarist Raphael Rabello, with whom he recorded the album "À Flor da Pele" in 1990. In 1996 he recorded the album Chico Buarque ("Um Brasileiro") with music by Chico Buarque. With this he celebrated great success.

In 2008 his album "Inclassificáveis" was released in which he turned to the subject of aging. At that time he was already 68 years old and was reflecting on part of his life. In 2009 he released his last record "Beijo Bandido", which was released in 2011 in a live version.
