Asahi Kasei KK ( Japanese 旭 化成 株式会社 , Asahi Kasei Kabushiki kaisha , English Asahi Kasei Corporation ), listed in the Nikkei 225 , is a Japanese chemical company. The company employs around 35,000 people who generated sales of 16 billion euros in the 2018 financial year. Asahi Kasei manufactures basic chemicals, plastics and synthetic fibers, pharmaceuticals, building materials, prefabricated houses, styrene-butadiene rubber and microporous films for lithium batteries, but also electronic components such as D / A converters since 1980 .

The forerunner of Asahi Kasei ( Nobeoka Ammonia Fiber ) was the first Japanese company to manufacture ammonia in 1922, which was used to manufacture Bemberg silk . In 1931 Asahi Kasei was founded from this. In 1957 the production of polystyrene and in 1959 of synthetic fibers began.
