The Ascort is a passenger car that was manufactured by the Australian coachbuilder Continental Coachwork in Sydney from 1958 to 1960.

description

It's basically a VW Beetle that has been transformed into a four-seater sports coupe . It had a spacious, two-layer fiberglass body and looked very similar to the VW Karmann Ghia from the 1970s. With a wheelbase of 2400 mm, the vehicles were 4000 mm long, 1575 mm wide and 1448 mm high. The 1.2-liter four - cylinder boxer engine was tuned with an Okrasa performance kit and developed 54 hp (40 kW). The curb weight was 740 kg, which made for an impressive acceleration capacity. In total, more than 12 copies were built. The Ascort reached a top speed of 153 km / h. There were also plans to install a 1.5-liter engine with 70 hp (51 kW) that would have allowed a top speed of over 160 km / h, but that never happened.
