The Ash Hill or Ash Hill Crater is one of the volcanoes of the Auckland Volcanic Field . The low tuff cone with a 150 m wide explosion crater is now built over by industry and most of it has been removed.
The once about 30 m high peak towered over the surrounding area by only about 8 meters.
Ash Hill was named by Earnest J. Searle after the nearby Ash Road . This in turn is named after ash , not after volcanic ash. Dating to the radiocarbon method given his age at 31,800 +/- 159 years, which is a similar age as the nearby Matukutururu .
