Ash of Gods: Redemption

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ash of Gods: Redemption is a fantasy strategy role-playing game developed by AurumDust and published by Buka Entertainment. The game contains elements of various genres, including visual novel and rogue-like .

The game can be assigned to Dark Fantasy and the setting is similar to the high Middle Ages in western Europe in terms of its level of technical development and its moral concepts . The game was written by Russian author Sergey Malitsky and translated into German by Marcel Weyers .

action

In a world called Terminus, the player takes control of several groups of characters, each led by one of the protagonists. There are three of these in the game: retired Royal Guard captain Thorn Brenin, wandering healer Hoper Rouley, and professional killer Lo Pheng. These heroes are on the cusp of events that threaten to usher in the end of civilization.

Some chapters of Sergey Malitsky's novels (which are the literary basis of the game) are published on the AurumDust website. These chapters describe how each of the main characters in the story is involved in the general adventure.

Game principle and technology

The story is presented in the form of a visual novel with a non-linear plot. The story of the game is determined by the actions of the player and the possibilities for dialogue. The storytelling is based on the sequence of moral decisions, in which each of the player's decisions significantly influences the further development of the events. The decisive factor here is the principle of the "lesser evil": the player must constantly choose between quick profit, which can lead to unpleasant events in the future, and sacrifice, which in return could facilitate a later episode. Due to the rogue-like influence, the story continues even after the death of a protagonist.

The fights are turn-based in an isometric perspective. Combat skills use not only a character's energy, but also their health. In addition, the player can use cards that are comparable to powerful spells. The formation of the deck, the dealings of cards during combat, and their use are in many ways similar to classic trading card games. Thus, the cards the player receives at the start of the fight define the player's strategy, while the characters he has on the field determine his tactics.

Production notes

Official development of Ash of Gods: Redemption began in 2016, but according to CEO Nikolay Bondarenko (who previously worked for companies like Streko-Graphics, TvxGames, and GameNet), the concept of this game was established as one based on a ramified system of moral choices , developed by him a few years earlier. This idea was in development for several years, but due to various factors (including the world financial crisis and the author's own doubts) the implementation of the project has been postponed indefinitely.

On May 23, 2017, AurumDust Studio launched a kickstart campaign for Ash of Gods: Redemption, with a goal of $ 75,000. The game will be released for PC on March 23, 2018, with a console release planned for summer 2018.

Soundtrack

The soundtrack for Ash of Gods: Redemption was created by composers Adam Skorupa, Krzysztof Wierzynkiewicz and Michał Cielecki (who wrote the music for projects such as Max Payne , Painkiller , The Witcher and EVE Online ).

Ash of Gods: Redemption received mixed ratings. The GameRankings review database aggregates 7 reviews to an average of 69. Jörg Luibl from the online magazine 4Players accuses the developers of having published plagiarism on The Banner Saga (2013):

"What a brazen plagiarism! [...] You are out and about with father and daughter, who also look similar. Even the battlefield grid, the representation of the journey and the dual principle in combat are almost identical!"
