Coordinates: 33 ° 53 ′ S , 151 ° 8 ′ E The Municipality of Ashfield was a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . Ashfield belonged to the metropolis of Sydney , the capital of New South Wales. The area is 8 km² and last had about 41,000 inhabitants.
Ashfield was about five miles west of Sydney city center, south of the port . The area includes 12 neighborhoods: Ashfield North, Dobroyd Point, Haberfield, Summer Hill and parts of Ashbury, Ashfield, Ashfield South, Canterbury, Croydon, Croydon North, Croydon Park, and Hurlstone Park. The seat of the Municipality Council is in the Ashfield district in the southern half of the LGA.
In 2016 the administrative area was incorporated into the Inner West Council .

The Council of the Municipality of Ashfield has twelve members elected by the residents of the four wards (three councilors each from North, North East, East and South Ward). These four districts are determined independently of the districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
