The Auburn City Council has twelve members elected by the residents of the two wards (six councilors each from the first and second ward). These two districts are determined independently of the districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.

history

Before the arrival of European settlers, the area around Parramatta River and Duck Creek was inhabited by the indigenous people of the Wangal tribe. The first farmers settled in the area known as Liberty Plains after 1790 . On February 19, 1892, this area got borough status and in 1906 Silverwater was incorporated. Auburn was later renamed Municipality and expanded in 1949 and Lidcombe. After another term reform, the area was in 1993 only Auburn Council , but applied in 2006 to the status of a City . Since June 24th, 2009 the LGA has been named City of Auburn.
