Asia New Bay Area

The Asia New Bay Area (also Asia's New Bay Area , "New Bay of Asia", Chinese: 亞洲 新 灣區 Yàzhōu Xīnwān Qū) is an industrial, trade fair and cultural site at the port of the Taiwanese city ​​of Kaohsiung . In its area are the port terminal, the maritime culture and pop music center, the headquarters of the city library, the exhibition and conference center and the main station of Taiwan's first tram , the Circular Light Rail Line . The Asia New Bay project aims to raise the international profile of the city of Kaohsiung and attract foreign investors. The construction work began in succession from 2011; some facilities are still under construction. The total investment is approximately 30 billion Taiwan dollars (over 1 billion US dollars as of 2012). Further facilities are planned.

Location and facilities

The Asia New Bay Area is located at the port of the city of Kaohsiung or in its immediate vicinity. The over 500 hectare site extends over parts of the Gushan , Yancheng , Lingya and Qianzhen districts . The facilities are located on formerly industrial properties that were vacated by the redesign and rationalization of Kaohsiung Harbor and were now fallow.

Port terminal

The port terminal extends from Pier 18 to Pier 21 of the port and comprises an administration building, a conference hall and three jetties . The size of the terminal is sufficient to accommodate two 225,000-ton cruise ships at the same time . Construction of the terminal is scheduled to start in November 2014 and the expected opening in June 2017.

The exhibition and conference center offers space for 1500 standard measuring stands, a conference room for 2000 participants, two conference rooms for 800 participants and ten for 20 to 40 participants. Construction began in October 2011 and the finished building was opened on October 18, 2013. The first trade fair to be held here was the “Taiwan International Fastener Show” for connection technology on April 14, 2014. The modern high-rise with the headquarters of the China Steel Corporation is located in the immediate vicinity of the center .

The maritime culture and pop music center

The grounds of the center extend from Pier 11 to Pier 15 of the port. It consists of an outer concert hall for 12,000 spectators, an inner concert hall for 6,000 spectators and six smaller concert halls for 150 to 400 spectators. It also contains a marine culture exhibition center, a water park, a bike path and a culture and creative market. The expected completion is planned for 2017.

The headquarters of the city library

The area with an area of ​​20,000 square meters houses the largest public library in Taiwan. It is an ecological structure with eight floors and a basement. The book inventory is over 1 million volumes. The library includes a department for international picture books and a children's theater, the first of its kind in the country. The complex is expected to open in late 2014.

The Circular Light Rail Line is Taiwan's first tram. It comprises 36 stations, its route runs along the sights of Kaohsiung.
