Asia (train)
"Asia" was the first code name for the special train that Hermann Göring used during the Second World War .
description
The code name was used for the special train from September 1, 1939 to January 31, 1943. Göring used the train frequently, for example for trips between Berlin and his headquarters "Jägerhof" near Rastenburg in East Prussia or in October 1940 for a trip to the French Channel coast . The train usually ran with 15 cars . Göring himself initially used the 10205 salon car , and from 1940 the 10215 salon car was even more comfortable .
In addition to the “Asia” train, there was a privilege with 14, later 22 wagons, which transported additional personnel from the area around Göring and carried their vehicles in a car transport wagon. If the train was not used, it was usually parked at Wildpark station on the premises of the Air Force command staff.
From February 1, 1943 the code name was changed: The special train was now referred to as "Pommern 1", the preference as "Pommern 2".
composition
The composition of the train was changed several times, for example the new 10215 saloon car was added in 1940. It remained constant, however, that the train carried platform trucks at both ends on which anti-aircraft guns were mounted. This was followed - as is generally the case with such trains - at both ends of the baggage cart as a “ crumple zone ”, as additional protection in the event of a collision. Two of them also had diesel generators with them, which ensured the train's power supply when it stood for a long time. Next, Goring's saloon car was parked at one end of the train. The direction in which the train went, i.e. whether Göring's saloon car ran in the front or the rear of the train, was dependent on operational conditions.
