Askainen [ ɑskɑi̯nɛn ] (Swedish Villnäs ) is a former municipality in the southwest Finland landscape Finland Proper . At the beginning of 2009, she was with Lemu after Masku incorporated.

Askainen is known nationwide for Louhisaari Castle , one of the few baroque palace buildings in Finland . The building, completed in 1655, was the seat of the aristocratic Fleming family until 1791, who gave up the property out of financial difficulties in 1791 and finally sold it to Count Carl Erik Mannerheim , who was the first offspring of this Swedish aristocratic family to settle in Finland. He was the great-grandfather of the later Finnish Marshal and President Carl Gustaf Mannerheim (1867–1951), who was born at the castle. The castle also includes a chapel, built in 1653, in whose churchyard the Mannerheim crypt is located.
