The Asklepios Klinik Schaufling is a rehabilitation center for those undergoing rehabilitation with neurological, orthopedic, geriatric and cardiological diseases as well as for accident injuries in the Sanatorium am Hausstein district of the community of Schaufling near Deggendorf.

history

The foundation stone of the clinic was laid on October 7, 1905. On June 14, 1908, the “sanatorium for middle-class lung patients at Hausstein in the Bavarian Forest” opened with the city of Munich as the sponsor. In the following decades several additions and extensions were made, so that the old building finally reached its current length of 130 m.

In 1975 the lung sanatorium was closed due to a decline in patient numbers. Tuberculosis - the main diagnosis of many of those treated here - became less important due to better drug treatment options. A new use of the building was difficult to realize.

The supposed rescue came in 1983 in the form of a private person who wanted to build the "Holistic Medical Clinic Hausstein" here. But the end was a large-scale fraud, which ended with the bankruptcy of the planned clinic with the standard of a luxury hotel and with several legal proceedings.

In 1987 the clinic was bought by the Bavaria Clinic Group and opened a year later as a rehabilitation center for neurological and orthopedic diseases. For this purpose, several extensions were built that make it possible to accommodate up to 494 patients. In 1998, due to the crisis in rehabilitation and the declining patient numbers, the Bavaria Klinik first had to file for settlement and then for bankruptcy.

In September 1999 Asklepios Kliniken GmbH took over the Bavaria am Hausstein Clinic in Schaufling with a medical and therapeutic concept for the neurological and neuropsychological rehabilitation department and for the orthopedic, traumatological and rheumatological rehabilitation department. Around 3,450 patients are treated in the clinic each year.
