The Aso Rock is a monolithic rock northeast of Abuja in Nigeria . It is 936 meters above sea level and towers over its surroundings by 400 meters. The granite rock is the most striking landmark of the Nigerian capital Abuja.
Nearby are the President's Residence, the Nigerian National Assembly and the Supreme Court. Aso means "victorious" in the mother tongue of the now displaced Asokoro ( the people of victory ).
