Asphalt: Urban GT is an arcade racing game and the first part of the Asphalt game series developed by Gameloft and Ubisoft . It was first released for N-Gage , on September 22nd, 2004. In March 2005 it was also released for the Nintendo DS and was one of the launch titles for the handheld console .

N-Gage version

In the version for Nokia's handheld there are 22 licensed cars, many routes around the world and in Evolution mode 12 tuning options. This mode offers a wide scope and in it you can experience the career of a road racing driver. Then there is the normal racing mode in which you can drive against any number of opponents between one and seven, in two to five laps. Time trial mode and chase mode by chasing speeders in a patrol car.

The game also offers a multiplayer mode in which you can play against up to three real opponents via Bluetooth. The condition for this is that everyone must have the game on their N-Gage and that the players must be within a maximum of 15-20 meters. Otherwise it is possible that the players cannot find each other or the connection is broken during the race.

Nintendo DS version

In the later version for Nintendo's handheld there are 25 licensed vehicles and nine routes around the world. Here, too, there is the normal racing mode, the time trial and the chase mode. The evolution mode is also available and further developed. Here you can convert your car with 30 tuning options and career opportunities are further expanded.

The DS game also offers the player a multiplayer mode, via wireless connection for up to 4 players. Every player taking part must have an "Asphalt: Urban GT" game module and be no more than ten meters away from the host.

Reviews

The game received mostly positive reviews for the N-Gage and praised above all for its graphics and its multiplayer mode. It was also received positively that most vehicles can be controlled differently. The online tester 4Player gave it a good with 75 out of 100 points. Above all, the sound and the poor collision animation were criticized.

The NDS implementation received rather moderate marks. Since it was developed in a very short time to come out on the market as a DS launch title, it has some volatility. According to 4Player and Spieletipps.de , it offers a great approach, beautiful graphics and many tuning options, but has unnecessary and annoying defects, such as crashes and incorrect collision animation. It received 60 out of 100 points at Spieletipps .de.
