Under Aspri Petra ( Greek Άσπρη Πέτρα in the sense of, White Stone ') is a rock formation and a cave known on the peninsula Kefalos on the southwest end of the Greek island of Kos next to each other.
Above the cave rises the actual and eponymous White Stone , a largely light gray rock formation visible from afar with a very distinctive breakthrough ( hole ).
location
The rock formation and the cave are about 260 m above sea level. These are located around five kilometers from Kefalos on the southern slope of Mount Zini . The driveway is very far on a gravel road, then the objects can be reached via a hiking trail.
Excavations
In 1922 excavations were carried out in the cave by Italian archaeologists . Thereby utensils from different epochs were found, whereby the oldest finds date from the third millennium BC . These are the oldest proven traces of a settlement on the island of Kos.
The rock formation and the cave are freely accessible at all times.
