Assailant is a power metal band from Sweden founded in 2001 . In 2001 they played under the name Sacra Via and until 2004 they were called Ecliptica.

Band history

The band was founded in 2001, then still under the name Sacra Via, by Oskar Norberg, Peder Sandström, Joakim Jonsson and Patrik Larsson in Umeå . In search of a singer, they met Markus Granberg and thus finished working on their first demo . Later, Kristofer Eriksson, a childhood friend of Patrik Larsson and Peder Sandström, joined them as the second guitarist. Another demo was also recorded.

Shortly afterwards Kristofer went to Stockholm to study music and Markus got a job in Spain as an entertainer and left Sweden.

In May 2004 Ecliptica came into contact with Peder Sundqvist ( Dead Street Journal and Lesra ). Together they recorded their first song Lies and Markus soon became the new singer. Since the band urgently needed a second guitarist, Marcus Sundbom, who also played with Peder Sundqvist on Dead Street and Journal, joined the band in August of that year. Shortly afterwards they decided to drop the old band name Ecliptica and renamed themselves Assailant.

In 2005 their first demo came out with eight different songs. In August / September of the same year they signed a record deal with the German record label Dockyard 1 . In 2006 their debut album Nemesis Within was released , which was mixed with very aggressive parts. After two years of hard work, Assailants' second album Wicked Dream was released in 2008, also under Dockyard 1 , on which, like the previous album, more aggressive parts could be heard. In addition, they started filming their first video, A Day Tomorrow , in the winter .

In August 2009, keyboardist Peder Sandström surprisingly left the band.

At the end of December of the same year, Assailant and Dockyard 1 parted ways. The band justified this as follows:

“We would like to thank Dockyard 1 for everything and wish them the best. We, Assailant, have decided to leave Dockyard 1 because we have both benefited from each other, but we are looking for a new label because we want to start all over again. Now we would like to continue our work on our third studio album and see what the future holds in our hands. Thanks again to Dockyard 1. You guys are really nice! Thank you!"

Assailant is currently looking for a new label . The third album is still being worked on; a release date and a name are not yet known.
