Assassin of Youth ( dt. Assassin of Youth ) is an anti-cannabis exploitation film from 1937.
The film is very similar to the much better known propaganda film Reefer Madness , in which actress Dorothy Short also stars.
action
The girl Joan Barry is introduced to a group of teenage marijuana smokers by her cunning and marijuana-dealing relatives, Linda Clayton and Jack Howard, who are trying to prevent her from receiving an inheritance.
The reporter Art Brighton infiltrates the gang of lamentable addicts who lose themselves in increasingly vicious celebrations that degenerate into veritable orgies through marijuana abuse: some girls stab each other with knives under the mind-destroying influence of marijuana.
Joan ends up being tried for moral aberration, but before her conviction, Art storms in Brighton and reveals to Judge George Herbert that many of those in the courtroom are despicable marijuana addicts who have no right to blame Joan Barry. In particular, Linda Clayton's vicious marijuana trade is exposed.
Joan is acquitted and later works as an artist.
backgrounds
The film's title refers to an article that Harry Anslinger had written for American Magazine; in this concoction he had summarized all his propaganda against marijuana.
Assassin of Youth is available in the US public domain and online.
