Assiette
An assiette (in French assiette , plate) is flat packaging in the form of a foil dish with a lid for hot or cold dishes to take away. Assets usually consist of drawn aluminum foil or polystyrene . The sizes are standardized, but there are assets without subdivisions and subdivided variants for different components of a meal. For example, simple rice or pasta dishes (for example lasagna ) are packaged in an undivided, rectangular assiette. Dishes consisting of several components are divided into several compartments, for example a separate compartment each for rice or noodles, for vegetable side dishes, and for meat or tofu . Assietten are mainly used by Asian takeaways, but also by catering companies for the delivery of dishes. There are “luxury versions” of the Assiette, for example in gold-colored metal and / or with a lid made of transparent film . Packaged foods such as raw or pre-cooked meat, baked goods and the like are also offered in retail outlets, sometimes in assets.
The term assiette is sometimes used for meals themselves packed in this way. Historically, the use for “those small intermediate dishes, the quantity of which does not exceed the contents of a plate. One also speaks of an assiette compot, confect or fruit. Assiettes volantes are those dishes that have to be eaten immediately when they come out of the oven so that they do not lose their good taste and appearance, such as: B. Soufflés . "
The name Assiette is widespread especially in the area of the former GDR and is not very common in West Germany. As a typical GDR word, the assiette has found its way into texts that deal literarily with everyday life in the GDR.
