The Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs is an office within the United States Department of State .

History of the office

The U.S. Department of State established the Bureau of Politico-Military Affairs by administrative decree on September 18, 1969 to enhance the department's role in international security policy formulation, security support oversight, and foreign military sales programs and to manage the issuance of arms export licenses. The office replaced a special group for politico-military affairs that had been under the deputy head of the Political Affairs ( Deputy Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs ) since 1960 . The Director of the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs has been prepared by Foreign Minister appointed and held the rank an assistant secretary of state the same.

As of April 14, 1986, the Director is appointed by the US President, after consultation and approval by the US Senate , and is now formally Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs as Head of the Political-Military Affairs Division . He now reports to the Head of the Department of Arms Control and International Security Affairs ( Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Affairs ) and is the first joint of the Foreign Ministry to US Department of Defense . The subdivision is largely responsible for political control in the areas of international security, security support, military operations, defense strategy and planning, and arms trade.

The subdivision includes the Office of Congressional and Public Affairs (PM / CPA) , the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) with the Fundamentals of Control Units Trade in armaments (Office of Defense Trade Controls Policy (PM / DTCP)) , licensing of the control of trade in armaments (Office of Defense Trade Controls Licensing (PM / DTCL)) , observance of the control of trade in armaments (Office of Defense Trade Controls Compliance (PM / DTCC)) as well as management of the control of arms trade (Office of Defense Trade Controls Management (PM / DTCM)) . The subdivision also includes the Office of Global Programs and Initiatives (PM / GPI) , the Office of Security Assistance (PM / SA) , and the Office of Security Negotiations and Agreements (Office of Security Negotiations and Agreements (PM / SNA) , the Office of State-Defense Integration (PM / SDI) , the Office of Regional Security and Arms Transfers (PM / RSAT )) and the Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement (PM / WRA) .
