The women's football department of the sports club Associação Portuguesa de Desportos (nickname "Lusa") from São Paulo is currently one of the top division teams in Brazil .
history
The women's football department of Portuguesa was founded on the occasion of the establishment of the São Paulo state championship in 1997 and has been in existence ever since. Because it was sponsored by the Faculdades Sant'Anna private school (now the Universidade Sant'Anna) for the first three years of its existence, the team came up under the name “Lusa Sant'Anna” at that time. Under the direction of Wilson "Wilsinho" de Oliveira Riça , who briefly coached the women's national team in 1999 , the team was one of the top performers in Brazilian women's football until the turn of the millennium. In addition to three national championships, the CBF won the championship tournament in Uberlândia after a 4-0 win over Palmeiras São Paulo on February 13, 2000. Well-known club active members of the time were, among others, the national players Marisa , Tânia "Maranhão" , Maycon and Formiga .
In the years after the turn of the millennium, Portuguesa lost touch with the top class, but continued to run its women's team. From 2014 to 2016 he took part in the seasons of the Brazilian championship . For the 2017 season he was able to compete in the newly established second division (Série A2) , reach the runner-up there and thus complete the promotion to the first division.
