Assocreation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Assocreation is a group of visual artists . It was founded in Vienna in 1997 and deals with haptic perception and a conscious, temporal movement in space. In order to convey the knowledge gained through movement and tactile experience, Assocreation mainly works on interactive installations and happenings in public spaces. The (floor) floor plays an important role in her works.

The work of the anonymous artists from Assocreation , who see themselves as an individual, includes a number of body-related works, especially at festivals such as the Ars Electronica in Linz, the Biennal de Valencia or the MachineRaum Biennale in Vejle, Denmark.

The group made its first international appearance in 1999 as part of the Ars Electronica Festival Life Science with the interactive, telematic installation Bump, in which two linked sidewalks were set up in public spaces in Linz and Budapest. If someone steps on one of these sidewalks, their own weight triggers an impulse with every step, which is transmitted to the other city via a data line. There, the corresponding boards, and with them the passers-by on the sidewalk, rise by a few centimeters - and vice versa. This installation is represented in October 2010 as part of Istanbul 2010 - European Capital of Culture in Europe and Asia.

In 2003, the follow-up project Common Ground was shown at the Biennal de Valencia in the Department Store exhibition curated by Will Alsop . This installation consists of a granite-paved floor, which is mounted on compression springs and integrated into an urban space. Every step on it triggers a wave that spreads over the granite stone pavement and hits other passers-by. As with Bump , Common Ground transforms the solid ground into a movable membrane.

In their Public Hangings : in 2005, the viewer was offered the experience of being hung on the collar of a business suit in a place where otherwise dead meat is transported.

Smaller projects followed until 2006, such as B. Pink prints or the Freedom lettering that was attached to various basketball cages in Vienna using a yellow drainage pipe - as 3D graffiti. During this time, the Assocreation, which specializes in public space, was invited to an exhibition in a gallery for the first time. For the participation in the group exhibition Knock Knock Picnic in the New York gallery Jack The Pelican Presents , you created the installation Red Carpet , a red runner that consisted of flexibly connected heads of street brooms. This installation was also shown in 2007 at the European art festival Europalia 07 in the group exhibition Agorafolly .

Assocreation are currently working on their Moon Ride project, initiated in 2006 , which was shown at the Ars Electronica Festival Simplicity in the same year and at the MachineRaum Biennale for Media Art in Vejle (DK) in 2007. Participants at the happening use their bicycles to hook up to bicycle trainers that have been converted into generators. Every step on the pedals generates electric current, which makes a light balloon floating in the night sky - depending on the pedaling frequency - glow with different brightness. Moon Ride plays with the fiction of a world in which even at night there is no light without human strength - not even the moonlight. This installation will be represented in October 2010 at the Warsaw under Construction festival curated by the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw .
