Astor (originally Margaret Astor ) is a German cosmetics brand. The Astor family, who come from Walldorf , Germany, also founded the New York Hotel Waldorf Astoria of the same name .

Astor Cosmetics was founded in 1952, originally under the name Margaret Astor , as a subsidiary of the Blendax plants in Mainz . The name was inspired by the company's founder's mother-in-law, Wilhelm Boelcke , who came from the Astor family .

In the boom of the post-war period, the brand quickly became very popular and within five years it was able to take the leading position on the German market. The brand was quickly introduced in other European countries.

In 1965 Margaret Astor KG was taken over by the British Beecham Group and was successfully expanded. Astor was soon available in 22,000 stores in more than 60 countries.

In 1990 Margaret Astor was bought by the German Benckiser Group and is now part of the perfume and cosmetics group Coty Inc.
