Wilhelm Boelcke
Wilhelm Boelcke (* 1886 in Buenos Aires, Argentina , † 1954 in Mainz ) was a German pilot in the First World War and an industrialist. He was the older brother of the famous fighter pilot Oswald Boelcke .
Life
Time in Buenos Aires
Wilhelm Boelcke was born in Buenos Aires in 1886. Like his siblings Luise and Heinrich, he was born in Argentina. His father, Max Boelcke, was the principal of the German Protestant school in Buenos Aires. The family did not return to Giebichenstein near Halle until the end of 1890 .
military service
Before the war he volunteered for military service, where he joined a reconnaissance unit for field pilots. His brother Oswald followed him and was also accepted and deployed with the field pilots. Both brothers were deployed in the French war zone on September 1, 1914. Wilhelm was observer and squadron leader at the same time, his brother Oswald was the pilot. In this constellation, the brothers flew several missions until there were disputes with their comrades within the unit in the spring of 1915. Shortly afterwards, the brothers let themselves be commanded into different units.
Time as an industrialist
In 1932 he was a co-founder of the Blendax works in Mainz and in 1952 the founder of Astor Cosmetics , a subsidiary of the Blendax works. When giving the name, he was inspired by his mother-in-law, Margaret Astor. She came from the Astor family .
