Astrid Ley (architect)

Astrid Ley (born December 30, 1974 in Cologne ) is a German architect . Since October 2014 she has been professor for the Chair of International Urban Design at the University of Stuttgart and co-director of the University's Urban Design Institute. She is Vice Dean for the Faculty of Urban Development.

Life and Scientific Career

Astrid Ley completed her studies in architecture with a focus on urban development at the RWTH Aachen University in 2001 and worked for Agenda Transfer , an agency for sustainability, in Bonn .

From 2003 to 2013 she worked at the Technical University of Berlin . In 2009 she did her PhD in architecture on housing as a political issue in Cape Town . From 2004 she worked as a consultant for urban development in various development agencies. In 2014 she was a consultant for urban development at the German Advisory Council on Global Environmental Change ( WBGU ).

In October 2014 she was appointed to the chair for international urban planning in succession to Helmut Bott at the University of Stuttgart. Her research projects are the real laboratory for sustainable mobility culture , the real laboratory for urban space education and the BMBF research project Change - Sustainable Transformation of Urban Spaces . She is a member of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and advisor to the oikos human settlements research group .
