Astrid Schmitt (born June 17, 1959 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1978, Schmitt studied at the Rhineland-Palatinate University of Education . In 1985 she passed the second state examination, and from 1990 to 1996 she was a teacher at a special school in Daun . Schmitt is married and has two daughters.

politics

Schmitt joined the SPD in 1991. Since 2003 she has headed the district association of the SPD Daun.

In 1994 she was elected to the district assembly of the Daun district, where she was chairwoman of the SPD parliamentary group from 1998 to 2003. From 2009 to 2014 she was also First Alderman of the district. In 1996 she became a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament . There she was chairman of the budget and finance committee for ten years. Since 2011 she has been deputy parliamentary group leader of the SPD. She is a member of the Council of Elders, the Committee on Education, the Committee on European Issues and One World, the Committee on Media, Digital Infrastructure and Network Policy and the Intermediate Committee.

She has been Vice President of the State Parliament since 2018.
