Asu (also Abewa ) is an almost extinct language spoken in the villages south of Kontagora in the state of Niger in western Nigeria .

It is a nupoid language and, together with the eponymous Nupe, forms its subgroup Nupe-Gbagyi .

The Asu speakers are increasingly using the official language English, which also serves as the lingua franca for communication with other ethnic groups.
