Career

society

Lawrence Quaye began his career in Ghana with Liberty Professionals . In January 2003 he moved to the French club AS Saint-Étienne . On March 8, he made his league debut against ES Wasquehal and scored the 1-0 winner against FC Gueugnon on December 6, his only goal. With Saint-Étienne he managed to win the Ligue 2 title in 2003/04 and the associated promotion to Ligue 1 . After the 2003/04 season he returned to Liberty Professionals for half a year before moving to Qatar for the 2004/05 season to the Al-Gharafa Sports Club .

With the Al-Gharafa Sports Club he managed to win the title in 2007/08 and repeated this in 2008/09 and 2009/10. On May 16, 2009 Al Gharafa won the final of the Emir of Qatar Cup with a 2-1 victory over Al-Rayyan SC . Since 2008 Quaye has played 17 games for Al Gharafa in the AFC Champions League , but has so far been unable to score.

National team

Quaye played for the Ghanaian U-17 national team at the 2001 UEFA-CAF Meridian Cup , where he played three games against Portugal (1-1), Italy (0-1) and Spain (0-2).

In 2010 he decided to play for the Qatari national soccer team and was part of the squad for the 2011 Asian soccer championship , which was held in his own country. For his "second home" he played a few preparatory games against Haiti , Egypt , Estonia , Iran and North Korea . He was also used in all three group games of the 2010 Golf Cup . He also played an unofficial friendly against the Swiss club FC Lausanne-Sport .

Others

  • In order to play in the Qatari national team, Quaye needed a Qatari passport. For this he needed an Arabic name and was given the name Anas Mubarak on his passport .
  • He also has an older brother who is also a professional football player. Abdullah Quaye (previously Awuley Quaye Junior ) has already spent his career in many different countries, such as Spain, Germany, Ghana, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. Shortly after his transfer to Al-Wahda in 2007, he converted to Islam and therefore changed his name to Abdullah. Awuley Quaye Senior , the father of the two, was once an active soccer player himself, played for the Ghanaian national soccer team and also took part in an Olympics.
