The 20th Golf Cup took place from November 22nd to December 5th, 2010 in the Yemeni port city of Aden . Winner of the football tournament was Kuwait with a 1: 0-final victory against Saudi Arabia . For Kuwait it was the tenth title win in the competition.
Yemen has been participating in the Golf Cup since 2003. It is the only participating country that is not a country bordering the Persian Gulf. In January 2007, the country was chosen to host the 20th edition of the tournament. The tournament budget was $ 300 million.
In the run-up to the event, there were concerns about the hosting of the tournament in Yemen. The main criticism was the unstable security situation in the country , which has been the target of frequent attacks recently. Three days after the group stage draw, a separatist group in the south of the country called on the Gulf States to boycott the tournament. On October 23, 2010, Yemeni security forces thwarted a bomb attack in Aden. For its part, the Yemeni government said it would deploy 30,000 soldiers to protect the event.
