Hawar Mulla Mohammed Taher Zebari ( Kurdish هاواری مهلا محهمهد; Arabic هوار ملا محمد, DMG Hawār Mullā Muḥammad ; * June 1, 1981 in Mosul ) is a former Iraqi soccer player of Kurdish descent. His first name (Hawar) is always on his jersey, as he would like the commentators to use his first name. The latter is common in Arab football. He is the older brother of Halgurd Mulla Mohammed , who also plays football professionally.
Career
The left midfielder , who can also be used as a left winger , began his career in 1998 at the then second division club FC Mosul, before moving to the top Iraqi club Al-Quwa al-Jawiya after its promotion, where he was Iraqi runners-up in 2000 and 2001 has been. After becoming Iraqi champions again in 2005, Mohammed moved abroad for the first time and joined the Lebanese champions Al-Ansar , where he only played for one season, before joining the Apollon Limassol club in July 2006 , which was overseen by former Iraqi national coach Bernd Stange moved to Cyprus. After playing there until January 2007, he was loaned to the Al Ain Club . In the 2007/08 season he played for Al-Khor in Qatar .
For the 08/09 season he moved back to Cyprus, this time to Anorthosis Famagusta . On September 16, 2008, Hawar was substituted on during the game between Anorthosis and Werder Bremen in the 46th minute, making him the first Iraqi soccer player to play in the Champions League. On October 2, 2008, the 2nd match day of the 2008/09 CL season, he met against Panathinaikos Athens and was thus the first Iraqi to score in the Champions League.
He played for Persepolis Tehran in the 2009/10 season, but his contract was terminated in June 2010. From 2012 to 2014 he played for the Iraqi first division club Arbil FC and then moved to al-Quwa al-Jawiya for a year and ended his career there.
National team
In the Iraqi national team he made his debut on August 31, 2001 in Manama in the 1-0 defeat by Saudi Arabia . In 2004 he took part in both the Asian Cup (4 games, 1 goal) and the Olympic Games (6 games, 2 goals). In 2007 he played in the Gulf Cup (3 games, 2 goals) and the Asian Cup (6 games, 1 goal and one goal on penalties in the semifinals against South Korea, as well as the submission of the only goal in the final against Saudi Arabia). With the selection of his country Hawar was able to become Asian champion in 2007 .
