Eponym | Eugène Atget |
Atget is an impact crater on the planet Mercury . The crater has a diameter of one hundred kilometers and is clearly visible on the surface of the planet due to its dark color . The Atget crater is named after the French photographer Eugène Atget (1857–1927). It lies within the plane of the heat of Caloris Planitia , near the Apollodorus crater and the Pantheon Rift (25.6 ° N / 193.9 ° W). The dark tint of Atget contrasts it with the other craters within the plane of the heat , which generally have a light crater floor, such as the Kertész or Sander craters . Other Mercury craters such as Basho and Neruda have a courtyard made of dark material that never covers the crater floor.
