Athanasios Despotis

Athanasios Despotis (* 1979 ) is a Greek New Testament scholar .

Life

From 1991 to 1997 he attended high school and high school in Athens. In 1997 he took first place in the competitive examination for entry into the Theological Faculty (Theological Institute) of the University of Athens. In June 1998 he graduated as a musician (specialty: teacher of Byzantine music) with the final grade “excellent”. From 1997 to 2002 he studied theology and classical philology at the University of Athens. From November to December 2002 he completed the postgraduate course in bioethics . From 2002 to 2004 he completed postgraduate studies at the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens ( The interpretation of the parable of the unjust steward (Luke 16: 1-9) by the Greek church fathers of the first five centuries ). From 2004 to 2006 he was a doctoral candidate at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the University of Tübingen with a research project funded by the DAAD . From 2005 to 2007 he completed a postgraduate course at the Oriental Seminar in Tübingen . After completing his doctorate ( University of Athens ) on November 20, 2006 with the dissertation : “The parable of the rich man and Lazarus. A comparative study on Patristic and Modern Interpretation ”he has been teaching the New Testament at the Protestant Theological Faculties of the Universities of Bonn and Cologne since 2007 . From 2008 to 2009 he did military service in Greece . From 2009 to 2012 he carried out the research project funded by the DFG : "New perspective on Paul and the orthodox interpretation of Paul". From February 2012 to January 2014 he lectured on the New Testament at the Protestant Theological Faculties of the Universities of Bochum and Essen . After completing his habilitation in June 2012 at the Protestant Theological Faculty of the University of Bonn, he held the inaugural lecture on May 12, 2012 in Bonn . From June 2013 to January 2014 he was a fellow of the Käte Hamburger Kolleg at the University of Bochum . From October 2013 to January 2014 he taught the New Testament at the Institute for Orthodox Theology at the University of Munich . Between February 2014 and January 2019 he had a Heisenberg fellowship at the University of Bonn. Since December 2018 he has been teaching as an adjunct professor at the Protestant Theological Faculty of the University of Bonn. He is also a member of the SNSF project "Image of God and Abyss of Desires" at the Theological Faculty of the University of Bern and Research Associate at the Department of New Testament and Related Literature at the University of Pretoria.
