The Athena Lenormant was found near the Pnyx hill in Athens in 1859 and recognized a year later by François Lenormant as a small replica of the Athena Parthenos des Phidias . According to Lenormant, the 41 centimeter high piece made of Pentelic marble also got its nickname. The unfinished work is of outstanding art historical importance as it shows not only the statue of Athena, but also the reliefs on the shield and the base , which until then were only known from written sources.

Athena stands upright in a calm, dignified posture, the right one is the stand - the left one is the free leg . She is dressed in an Attic peplos . The left arm rests on her shield. An Amazonomachy can be seen on the shield . In her right hand, which is supported on a support, Athena should be holding a Nike , but this has not been preserved. The not fully worked out base shows the birth of Pandora . The back is also still in an unfinished condition.

Today the statuette is in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens under inventory number 128.
