Athmallik was a princely state of British India in what is now the state of Odisha . Its capital was the place Athmallik .

Athmallik was recognized as a state in 1874. Before that it was a Jagir . The area covers 1894 km². The population was around 40,000 in 1901. The ruling family comes from the Kadamba -Bangsau dynasty. The capital of the princely state were Hondapa, later Thakurgarh, Nuagaon and finally Kaintaragarh (today's Purunagarh ). Talcher was one of 26 feudal states in what was then British India in the area of ​​today's Odisha . On January 1, 1948, the state joined the Indian Union with the signature of the last ruler .
